CONNECT WITH THE LANGUAGES AND CULTURES OF LATIN AMERICA

Wondering how we can share the rich cultures of Latin America here in Aotearoa? Or how we show our youth that learning other languages can translate to rewarding career paths and the brightest futures?

Come celebrate Latin American language and culture, create new connections and discover the impact we can make when multiple groups from all areas of our education industry unite. Latin America can be an exciting part of New Zealand’s future and together, we can make this happen.

Together with the newly formed Latin American CAPE*, Creative HQ brings you the first-ever EduHack: Latin America. We are searching the country for changemakers, students, community leaders and education experts who want to share their passion and connect our youth with the languages and cultures of Latin America.

To enhance our economic, trade, political, and cultural relationships with the region, we’re working with the Latin America CAPE, who add a new dimension to the development of New Zealand’s knowledge of Latin America and the language skills of New Zealanders.

Putting university experience together with nimble delivery systems and business partnerships, the CAPE will create a step-change in New Zealanders’ knowledge and skills relating to Latin America. It will do this by bringing its collective expertise to bear on collaborations with organisations already active in the field, notably its key delivery partner the Latin American Business Council.

“The Latin America CAPE has been created to help New Zealanders make Latin America part of their future. EduHack will bring students, educators and community voices together to make the region come alive in our schools,” said Dr. Matthew O’Meagher, Establishment Director, Latin America CAPE.

EduHack: Latin America will take place on 2nd and 3rd of December in Wellington. The hackathon format provides a space to explore Latin American language and culture learning in our schools and come up with innovative ways to enhance its impact.

A hackathon also allows teams to organically form around new ideas and develop innovative solutions. The groups will focus on answering five key questions;

  1. How can we share the rich cultures of Latin America here in Aotearoa?
  2. How can we encourage our young learners to take Spanish for NCEA?
  3. How can schools better celebrate, enable and sustain language learning?
  4. How can we leverage emerging technologies to introduce unfamiliar regions in world-leading ways?
  5. How do we show our youth that learning other languages can translate to rewarding career paths and the brightest futures?

During the weekend you will be able to network with mentors, speakers and meet and hear real stories from the countries of Latin America and innovation experts.

After 36 hours teams will be ready to celebrate what they’ve achieved and pitch their new innovative solutions in front of a live panel of judges. This gives teams the opportunities to gain valuable feedback from key investors, mentors and industry partners. Morgan Patterson, International Languages Exchanges and Pathways says, “EduHack: Latin America will lead our youth to global competence by innovatively connecting them to Latin America… it will open Latin American doors for young Kiwis to thrive in their global futures.”
